Pianist / keyboardist Jared Lang is a busy solo performer and session musician in Johannesburg. Primarily jazz trained, his Bachelor’s degree (BTech Mus from TUT) concentrated mainly on jazz piano, and his Master’s degree (MMus from Rhodes University) focused on jazz composition. Jared is available to perform at weddings and other functions, solo or as part of a band (2- to 6-piece).
Jared has played numerous live gigs and recording sessions in many styles including jazz, classical, latin, funk, rock, pop, metal and many more, either on solo piano or keyboards, as a duo (accompanying a vocalist or instrumentalist), trio, quartet, quintet or sextet. Previous and current bands (in addition to solo) include: Mobius Loop Band (now known as Eco Groove), Breakfast on the Run, Emalahleni Jazz Band, Highly Unlikely (performed at Woodstock 4), Psalm 87, Sabine, Mish-L (performed at Klein Karoo Kunstefees), Sunmilk, The Lizzie Hibbert Band (London, UK), The Mix (Al Ain, UAE) and Caffeine (Boston, USA).
Jared played at many weddings, as well as corporate functions such as the Rhodes University Golden Key function, Grahamstown City Hall Concert (part of the National Arts Festival), Morning Live (SABC 2), numerous ANC functions in Emalahleni, Nedbank team building function for Accounting branch, Essential Hardware and Tool Trade Show at Nasrec, Starbucks Launch of festive drinks at Mall of Africa, 6-month contract playing at the 5-star Danat Hotel in the UAE…
He has also studied commercial and contemporary music, and has worked professionally as a composer, arranger and producer for film / installations / advertising, producing backtracks and remixes.
Jared returned to South Africa from Al Ain, UAE in June 2016, where he spent 6 months performing at a 5-star hotel. He spent the latter half of 2016 performing at various corporate functions and venues, as well as lecturing 8 subjects at TUT Department of Jazz and Popular Music and teaching private students.
